Where Did Apple Go Wrong With Their New Headphones?

Before I continue, I just want to say that I’m a huge Apple fan and think branching out into the area of over-ear headphones (RIP Beats) was a good move by Apple. But for a few reasons, this product is not as ‘perfect’ as anticipated…

1. Price

These headphones are way more expensive than mid-range competition from Sennheiser, Bower and Wilkins, Bose and Sony. But let’s face it, we knew what Apple would charge.

2. Design

The style is rather ‘unique’ and definitely has a premium feel to it. The main concern is how compact they’ll look around the ears.

3. Case

At this point, words cannot describe what the case looks like and even God is shocked that something like this exists in his world. While we all laugh at how it doesn’t even cover the non-metallic parts of the headphones, I’m sure Apple is conjuring up a sinister and profitable plan and before you know it, we will all be walking around with our very own headphone handbag.

4. Universality

Unlike Sony’s XM4s and Bose’s 700s, these headphones have been designed with only MacOS/iPadOS/iOS in mind (understandably) meaning they have cut out a big chunk of technology users. However, it is likely that the customers that can afford these headphones and want to purchase a pair are likely to already own an iPhone so maybe it’s all fine.

5. Battery Life

AirPods Max’s battery life of 20h is good but doesn’t really compare with the current kings of over-ear wireless headphones, Sony’s WH-1000XM4 which have a whopping 30h of battery with noise-cancelling turned on.

6. Name

Um…‘AirPods Max’ sounds like the ultimate version of AirPods and surely they can’t be given a cute name such as ‘Pods’ anymore. But I guess to fit with their whole ecosystem of ‘EarPods’, ‘AirPods’ and ‘HomePod’, they didn’t have much choice?
